Bibimbap under a raw yolk
Rice underneath, then mushroom, carrot, cucumber, red cabbage and bean sprouts laid out in wedges around the middle, with browned minced meat beside them. Stir it all through before you start.
Chilli broth with onion and mushroom
A shallow steel pot of red broth, loaded with sliced onion, sliced mushroom and long slices of green chilli. A bowl of white rice sits next to it on the tray.

BannSang is at 47 High Street in the Auckland CBD, set back off the footpath under a black sign with an orange emblem. A timber bench sits by the door if you arrive early, and the glass front lets you see the dining room before you walk in. One regular calls the room cosy and casual, and says the staff stay efficient when it is busy, and one regular writes that they have never waited more than a few minutes for a table even during busy times. The same review calls the portions — hot, fresh and generous — and every meal comes with rice and a tray of side dishes you can ask to have topped up. The kitchen runs from 11:30am to 9:30pm, Monday through Saturday.
